We have been looking at the reviews of ironing boards and realize that it is hard to find a perfect one. What works for one may not be ideal for another. Size, weight, height, and padding thickness are some of the features that attract different preferences from users. While you may like a sturdy board, I may find it too heavy to carry and store. So, the best ironing board will mean different things to different people.
Below we have selected a few models for you to look at. These are best-sellers and enjoy high ratings from buyers overall. Take note of their features like size and weight when shopping around to get a clearer idea if they fit your needs.
Household Essentials Fibertech Ironing Board

We start off with the cheapest ironing board on our list – the Household Essentials Fibertech Mega Pressing Station. Its price range is $50 to $70 at the time of writing, about half of what you would pay for the top brands like Reliable and Rowenta. The ironing surface for this model measures 49″ x 18″.
We like it because it has a detachable sleeve board which is not found on most other models. For some people, it would come in handy when ironing small areas. The other unique aspect of this Household Essentials ironing board is the biodegradable top. Made of natural plant fibers, it not only breaks down quickly when it is time for disposal but it is also fire-retardant and can withstand high temperature levels. The thickness of the fiber pad is 6 mm while the cover is made of 100% cotton.
Supported by 4 round metal legs (32 mm), it also has a lock to keep them in place during storage. You can adjust the height of the board with a lever and the highest setting is about 38″ from the floor. The unit weighs about 16 lbs.
While this is the cheapest ironing board among the few here, there are also quite a few complaints that it is not durable. Depending on how much you are willing to invest in an ironing board, this one works well when new but be prepared to replace it down the road.
Brabantia Ironing Board With Solid Steam Iron Rest

The price for a Brabantia ironing board tends to fluctuate depending on the size of the board, leg design, and range of height adjustments. Hence, the price range can be pretty wide. Therefore, look carefully before you buy, especially the dimensions to make sure that it is the right size for your needs. While they may look the same except for the board covers, the sizes could be different. The one shown above measures 49″ x 18″ which is also known as Board C. This is the wide Brabantia ironing board with solid steam iron rest and Moving Circles board cover. It is slightly heavier than the Household Essentials ironing board above, weighing about 19 lbs.
This board has a 4-leg frame with 25 mm diameter steel tubes. It also has a transport lock for storage and a non-slip cap for the legs. The height is adjustable with the lowest setting at around 30″ and the highest at 38″. The underlay is made of resilient foam while the cover is 100% cotton.
There is also a narrower version of this model with a surface measurement of 43″ x 12″. The standard version would be 49″ x 15″.
You pay so much for the Brabantia Solid Steam ironing board because it is well-made. Compliments for this model from buyers are aplenty – it doesn’t wobble, it can withstand the pressure you put on it and it is large. The downside is, of course, the price, and it could be a little too heavy for some.
Reliable The Board 100IB Ironing Board

The Reliable 100IB ironing board doesn’t come cheap and at the time of this post, this belongs to the $100 to $150 price category.
Compared to the 4-leg frame of the two boards above, the C30 has a single wishbone leg to reduce wobbling with a high coat white finish for style. It has a tube frame construction with a galvanized metal mesh screen. Similar in size to the Brabantia and Household Essentials units, it has an ironing surface of 47.25″ x 18.9″ with a height adjustment ranging from 30″ to 38″.
The padding used is 500 g felt padding with a cotton / polyester blend cover. Weighing more about 16 lbs, it is strong enough to accommodate an ironing station on the iron tray which is riveted to the board for security. If you have a top end Rowenta iron which can be fairly heavy, you certainly need a good ironing board that can support the weight of the appliance.
A similar model to this one is the Reliable C60. This costs about $40 more at the time of writing but the C60 has double wishbone legs for added stability and a laundry rack.
Expensive but solid is how most buyers described the Reliable The Board 100IB. It may be overpriced for some but there is a noticeable difference between the cheapest and most expensive ironing boards out there. A well-built unit will cost you especially from the top brands on the market.
For a larger unit, you can get a Rowenta ironing board. The Rowenta Pro Compact Professional is in the $150 to $200 range but it has a 54″ x 18″ surface with a rack for your steam station. It should be a good fit for the Rowenta DG8430 Pro Precision Station.
Ironmatik Space Saving Ironing Board

Now, let’s take a look at something slightly different for a change – a space-saving ironing board. It is marketed as such because the size is smaller than conventional ironing boards. Rather than having a length of over 40″ for its ironing surface, the Ironmatik is only 35.4″ long. The width is the standard 15″.
On top of that, the other notable difference is the convenience of storing your iron together with the ironing board. A silicone elastic band is there to enable you to strap your clothes iron to the board. It would be a useful feature for those who often forget where they have put one or the other. With a sturdy hook, you can hang both the pieces in your closet or any cupboard. When it is time to set up your ironing board again, the clothes iron is already there waiting to be plugged in.
The iron tray is left and right-hand adjustable. It has a silicone plate to protect your iron’s soleplate. The height is also adjustable from 24″ to 36″ with no-slip foot stops. The board itself is steam permeable and porous with 3 padded layers and natural mesh board cover. The weight is less than 15 lbs.
The great thing about this Ironmatik ironing board is its size. It would be a good choice for those who are looking for a compact ironing board due to space constraints. Being provided with a hanging hook is also a bonus since you can hang it up easily with the clothes iron strapped together.
The other reason to get this is the squarish end. Many ironing boards have a pointed end but not everyone likes it this way. So, if you are one of those who prefers a square end, the Ironmatik is worth looking into.
The downside is this ironing board isn’t that cheap either. It is in the $50 to $100 price range. You may think smaller means cheaper but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem so for this model. Moreover, it is not a brand that many might have heard before compared to Brabantia and Reliable. But it is still one of the best ironing boards to us for its innovative idea and sturdy performance.
Homz Contour Steel Top Ironing Board

From the more expensive models, it’s time to switch our attention to a cheap ironing board. Not everyone can afford or feels it is worth it to splash more than $50 on an ironing board. If this is the case for you, then the Homz Counter Steel Top model might be what you are looking for.
It has a perforated steel top which is to improve steam flow while ironing. The top is laid with a polyurethane foam pad and a tightly contoured 100% cotton cover. The ironing surface is big for the price at 53″ x 13″. This length makes it convenient to iron pants and clothes of all sizes.
This is a T-leg board with a curved foot which is designed to increase stability. The metal contoured legs should provide rigidity and sturdiness while the ironing board is in use. The non-skid feet should also keep it in place. The height is adjustable to a maximum of 36″ tall with a leg lock for storage.
Rather than imported, the Homz ironing board is made in the USA. So, that is a good reason to buy it if you are particular about the manufacturing location. The other reason is, of course, the price. It is a cheap ironing board that is way more affordable for those on a tight budget. It is also a lightweight ironing board with a weight of about 9 lbs. This makes it easy to carry from one spot to another which is great for the elderly.
While it is cheap, be forewarned that this is a no-frills ironing board. It is very basic with a thin pad and legs. The sturdiness is definitely lacking compared to the more expensive models above. But if you are looking for the best ironing board that is also cheap, the Homz Contour Steel Top is one of the bestsellers in this category. You can’t compare it to the Brabantia and Reliable due to the huge price difference. But if you can make do with less sturdiness and stability, it might work well for you for the price that you pay.
Conclusion
Generally, the more expensive the board, the more solid and sturdy is its construction. However, the risk lies in its durability. Even the best ironing board can break within a short period of time as some buyer reviews have shown. But such complaints are far fewer for the top end models than the cheaper units and hence, it is a risk worth taking for a better-built ironing board that doesn’t wobble as much or sag under pressure. If you have the best steam iron but a lousy board, you would be doing yourself a disservice.

Also, if you are using a professional ironing system, then be aware that you might also need to use a different kind of ironing board to go with your iron. In this case, you would need a vacuum ironing board to remove steam with a built-in heating element.

I recently bought a Rowenta with a stainless steel plate. My old Black and Decker travel iron irons ten times better than the Rowenta.
