I know you are lazy to iron. So do I. Unless you are rich enough to send everything to the dry cleaners, ironing is an inescapable task. So, let’s drag out your ironing board and steam iron to begin your chore. But hang on! With all the advanced technology that is around us today, why are we still doing this the primitive way? There should be a less dreadful and time-consuming method than the traditional way of ironing, right?
Well, that’s right. An automatic ironing machine for home use is being developed and marketed somewhere as I write this but I doubt the price will be cheap. In the meantime, why not try something much cheaper and is already on the market. It is called Lemon-trade Automatic Ironer.

How does this automatic ironer work? It is a pretty simple concept. Apart from being an ironer, it is also a dryer. It has an inflatable body-shaped balloon. You start by pulling over your wet shirt over the balloon prior to inflation. You clamp the cuffs and bottom of the shirt to make it taut. Then turn on the automatic ironer. The balloon will inflate and pull the shirt with it.
The idea is to stretch out the wrinkles as it dries it with air and heat. Apparently, drying it this way is more gentle to your clothes compared to using the tumble dryer or traditional iron. Of course, it also saves you the hassle of ironing which is the main purpose of this invention. According to the product description, it takes 8 to 15 minutes to do a piece of clothing depending on the fabric type. The beauty is you can set the timer and leave it to do its job.
Can This Replace My Steam Iron?
I really wish it can. Then, I can say goodbye to my clothes iron. But from what I can see, it only works for shirts and blouses. I don’t think it would work for pants because the inflatable balloon is body-shaped.
However, if it works well for shirts, it may still be worth considering. It looks like it might work, but the results won’t be perfect. I think you will still be able to see faint wrinkle lines with this method. Just like the wrinkle release sprays, they work but only to a certain extent. If you are not fussy, you can probably rely on this for your shirts but don’t throw away your iron just yet either.
The other problem that I see with this automatic ironer is that it can only dry and “iron” one piece at a time. If you have a big pile of clothes to iron, this doesn’t seem very practical because you will need to wait for 8 to 15 minutes per piece of clothing. It is probably faster if you go back to traditional ironing. After all, you still need to bring out the ironing board for your pants and other items. However, I suppose you can do other things while waiting which is where the time saving comes in.
Why People Still Prefer Ironing
Despite the unpleasantness of the task, most people will still pick up a clothes iron and force themselves to iron all the way. Even with alternatives like a wrinkle remover spray or an automatic ironer, they still can’t replace a traditional iron. The reason is simple. Thus far, no other method can replicate the results of a traditional iron. The closest is a steamer but that also has its own set of pros and cons.
The best steam iron can give you crispness and professional-like results. Other methods can’t. That is why many people still turn back to the traditional way of ironing. When you iron using a clothes iron, a pressure is applied. Together with the heat, steam, and weight of the iron, wrinkles can be effectively removed for a smooth and crisp result.
Having said that, some people can live with the less than stellar results from a wrinkle remover spray or automatic ironer. I think they are great for a shirt or two when you have no time to drag out an ironing board. But they are not for heavy uses. I guess we will still have to wait a while more for an affordable and effective automatic ironing machine that can really replace a traditional iron.
