The cover and the ironing board must be a perfect fit. It has to be snug and tight so that it won’t move and slip off as you iron. Even if the cover doesn’t slip off, it can get wrinkly over time if it is not kept taut. The problem is ironing board covers are not perfect. Sometimes, they don’t stay in place as they should. The drawstrings may also be ineffective.
If your ironing board and the cover share the same manufacturer, maybe you would have better luck to keep it from slipping off. But for most of us, the 2 brands that we buy differ. So, the cover might be just a little too loose or too small. While you can use it to cover the board, there is a high chance it will move as you iron. I had the same problem once before. When my ironing board cover kept coming off, I got really frustrated and guess what I did?
I Tried To Keep It In Place
Back then I didn’t know better. I cut 2 small holes on each side of the cover underneath the ironing board. Then I thread a string through the holes and tied it. I made it as taut as I could. I did it for the pointed end of the ironing board and repeat the same procedure for the middle and straight end.
Did it work? Well, it did for a short time. As long as the 2 sides are pulled towards each other underneath the board, the cover will stay in place. But of course, after a short period of time, the cover was torn because of the holes that I made. The continuous pulling pressure will just cause it to tear.
I was stupid, I know. But I was really annoyed each time I did my ironing. To keep adjusting the ironing board cover every few minutes was plain irritating. Anyway, I knew it was just a stop-gap measure until I managed to hunt down another cover that will fit my ironing board perfectly.
The Better Solution If Your Ironing Board Cover Keeps Coming Off
==> Check Price
When I bought my new ironing board cover online, that was when I found out there is such a thing called ironing board cover fasteners. Have you ever had the problem of getting your bed sheet to stay in place? If yes, and you knew what to get to solve the problem, you would most probably know what to do with an ironing board cover that keeps coming off too.
But I don’t. I have never used bed sheet fasteners before which are basically corner holder elastic straps. The same concept can be applied to the ironing board cover. You just fasten one side of the cover to the other underneath the board and pull the strap tight. It is just like what I did with a string as mentioned above but of course, with a fastener, there is no need to cut holes and cause the fabric to tear over time.
These ironing board cover tension clips don’t cost much and it is an effective solution to a loose fit. Get them when you buy a new cover. There is always a risk that a replacement will not be a perfect fit. You can have the best steam iron and the best ironing board but if you have a cover that keeps slipping off, you will still tear your hair out each time you iron your clothes. So, get these tighteners. After all, they can be used for other things too.
