What is unique about the Panasonic NI-W810CS Multi-Directional Iron is the shape of the soleplate. Coated with ceramic, it has an elliptical shape with a double tip. The purpose for the double tip at both ends is to prevent creases whichever way you move the iron. For soleplates with a straight back portion, the irons tend to snag the clothes while ironing and creases may appear when they are moved backwards or side-to-side. The pointed tip at the back of the NI-W810CS is to take care of this problem. When compared to conventional Panasonic irons, the Multi-Directional unit can save you up to 25% more time as it eliminates the need for more passes. Basically, the curved and double tip design makes it easy to move the iron in any direction without causing further creases along the way.
For a better idea of how this new design works, check out the video below:
The steam holes are located along the perimeter of the soleplate. Compared to the Rowenta DW5080 Focus, the holes are bigger so the steam output can cover a larger area quickly. But it doesn’t have as many steam holes as the Rowenta and there are none in the center for more even steam distribution.
A dial is used to control the temperature and there are 5 settings available. A steam jet is also available for more stubborn wrinkles and it is also used to clean the vents to maintain optimal performance of the unit. For the adjustable steam options, 4 settings are included – high, medium, low and dry.
The iron uses a 360-degree rotating cord which is about 8-feet long. It also has a built-in 6.75-ounce water tank. Similar to the Panasonic NI-E650TR, the iron has a 3-way protection for the automatic shut-off feature. It will shut down on its own if left unmoved vertically (10 minutes) or flat on its soleplate and sides (1 minute).
Note: The Panasonic NI-W810CS is similar to the NI-W750TS. The only differences that we can see are that the NI-W750TS has a titanium soleplate instead of ceramic and a silver color instead of champagne.
Should You Buy The Panasonic NI-W810CS
Pros
- 360-degree design – The name multi-directional iron certainly has some truth to it with the unique design of the soleplate. Buyers have noted that it is easy to move the iron back and forth and it doesn’t bunch up your clothes whichever way you move it. It also glides well with its ceramic coating. Another iron with this soleplate design is the Panasonic NI-W950A which is a step up from this model.
- Double tip – The tip on both ends means you don’t have to lift the iron and turn it the other way to go over cuffs and pleats. It is more convenient and could save a little time this way.
- Easy to check water level – Unlike some models with dark colors, this Panasonic steam iron has a see through water tank that makes it easy to keep an eye on the water level.
- Well-regulated steam output – The steam output is consistent throughout and leaks are uncommon. Complaints of drips are few and far in between from buyers on Amazon, no matter the settings.
Cons
- Tips over easily – A few users have made this complaint of the iron tipping over a little too easily. Compared to the T Fal FV4495 Ultraglide for instance, the heel certainly doesn’t look as stable for the Panasonic NI-W810CS. While most irons have an entire flat surface as the heel, this one stands on 3 legs. If you are always knocking against the ironing board while pressing your clothes or you have a heavily padded board, you might like to look for a more stable iron or consider the Oliso TG1600 which can be placed sitting horizontally at all times.
- Not hot enough – Some people have commented that the unit seems to be lacking in the heat department. It is not hot enough for ironing linen and cotton which require not only sufficient steam, but also heat to make them look crisp.
What’s The Latest Deal For The Panasonic NI-W810CS? Find Out Now:
Despite the cons, we still feel that the Panasonic NI-W810CS is one of the best steam irons. It does lose out to the Rowenta DW5080 in terms of power and steam output, but the Rowenta iron is also more expensive by about $20. So, for the price and fewer complaints of durability compared to most other models, we recommend it for its futuristic look with its double tip multi-directional soleplate and trusted brand name – ideal for those who are more cost-conscious.
Lois Baron says
I bought this iron five years ago for my winter stay in Florida. The first time I used it, it fell off the ironing board (see Cons above!!) and the ceramic tip broke! I could not find Panasonic’s customer service contact anywhere. In the meantime, I’ve been using the iron as it is without a good tip, and it does a fairly good job. However, I’m constantly filling what I think is a very small water reservoir. I do NOT recommend this iron for both the possibly of breaking the tip (it doesn’t sit flush to the soleplate!) as well as lack of customer service. I will never buy another Panasonic iron again. I had high hopes for it, but too disappointed after spending so much money!
