Nothing beats having a steam station if you can afford it. The downside is it is expensive for a small home appliance but some people will still buy it because the results are worth it. They can also eliminate the need to send their clothes to the professional cleaners and hence, potentially save money in the long run. But you will need a good steam station to make it worthwhile. The Rowenta DG8520 review below intends to look at this steam station in further detail and find out if it could save you those trips to the cleaners.
Rowenta DG8520 Review – The Features
The features of the Rowenta Perfect Steam Station include:
- 1800-watt
- 5.2 bars of steam pressure
- Stainless steel soleplate
- Precision tip
- Eco mode
- Safety lock
- Vertical steam
- Anti-scale
- 47-ounce removable water tank
- Size: 17.7″ x 13.6″ x 11″
One of the major selling points of the Rowenta DG8520 Perfect Steam Station is the high-pressure steam output that cuts down on ironing time. This is a high-pressure steam generator that produces 3 times more steam than a traditional iron and the steam is available at the touch of a trigger which is located underneath the comfort grip handle. This will also enable you to do vertical steaming for hanging garments, curtains, and drapes.
To produce such a high amount of steam, it obviously needs to have a bigger volume of water in its tank compared to the usual clothes iron. The capacity of the water tank is 47 ounces which can give you at least 1.5 hours of continuous steaming. This will reduce the need for refills during your ironing sessions. You can also choose to iron on Eco mode which will use 20% less heating energy with a lower steam output.
The soleplate is made of stainless steel with 400 micro steam holes to give an even steam diffusion. This is similar to their high-end steam irons such as the Rowenta DW7180 Everlast and other expensive models that ride on their perfect steam diffusion as their selling point.
Other features that make the Rowenta Perfect Steam Station easy to use are the safety lock and anti-scale systems. The safety lock mechanism is to make it easy to transport the iron and its base from storage to your ironing board and vice-versa. The anti-scale system will collect deposits from the water and the indicator light will turn on when it is time for you to remove the collector for rinsing.
Rowenta DG8520 vs DG7530

Between the Rowenta DG8520 vs DG7530, the former is the more expensive model. Although the wattage is the same, the DG8520 has a more powerful steam output with 5 bar of steam pressure compared to 4 for the DG7530.
Furthermore, the steam concentration is higher at the tip of the soleplate for the DG8520 so that you can get the wrinkles out easier for hard to reach areas. The more expensive model also has a scale collector which makes it simpler to remove limescale compared to the cheaper DG7530 Compact Steam.
The water tank for the DG8520 is removable but the capacity is just 7-ounce higher than the DG7530 fixed tank. There is also no auto-shut off for the Perfect Steam Station. If you want this option, you will have to go with the Compact Steam model.
Should You Buy The Rowenta DG8520 Perfect Steam Station?
There are both pros and cons to this steam generator iron just like all other models out there. The pros are:
- Plenty of steam – This is the very reason why you buy a steam generator iron. You want to get the steam going and you want to control its release. The DG8520 does not disappoint in this aspect. The steam output is high and penetrates the fabric to erase wrinkles quickly.
- Makes ironing easy – The soleplate glides well and coupled with the steam output, ironing becomes easier and faster.
- Lightweight – The iron is lightweight which makes it less tiring on the arm. As the water is now stored in the base station rather than inside the iron itself, the weight is much reduced when you iron.
- Removable tank – The water tank is removable for filling which is convenient and practical.
- No auto shut-off – This is a steam generator iron for quilters and sewers because it doesn’t have an auto shut-off feature. While regular users might prefer the iron to shut off automatically if it is left idle, people who are into sewing would normally want their iron to be ready for use each time they pick it up. The Rowenta DG8520 is ideal for this group of users. Another iron which allows you to iron continuously with no auto shut-off is the Reliable Velocity 200IR.
The cons are:
- Not durable – There are a number of complaints from the Rowenta DG8520 reviews from buyers that we have come across which touched on the issue of durability. Some have found it to be leaking after using it only once or twice. Others started to have problems after a year or two when the warranty period is over.
- Expensive – Even the best Rowenta iron such as the DW9280 Steam Force costs less than half the price of the Perfect Steam Station. Of course, we cannot compare a traditional iron with a steam generator iron but the price is certainly high for regular home use since it will set you back a couple of hundred dollars.
What Are The Alternatives?
If you are not comfortable about purchasing after going through various Rowenta DG8520 reviews from multiple sources, what are the alternatives then? Well, there is a cheaper model in the DG7530 Compact Steam Station which should, at least, keep the cost down. Just bear in mind that there are a few features which are different but, by and large, it can perform the same function as the DG8520.
If you are willing to look beyond a steam station, a steam press such as the Steamfast SF-680 is also another option that you can consider. You can find one in the same price range as the Rowenta steam generator iron and there are quite a few of those models on the market. There are many people who claimed that they will never go back to using an iron after they have got used to using a steam press for their clothes.
From the Rowenta DG8520 review, we can’t say that it is the best steam generator iron but when it works, you can bet that it will make your chore much easier and you will like the steam output. That is true of many Rowenta steam irons too. When they are performing as they should, not many irons can come close to what they have to offer. The only problem is the durability and leakage problems that tend to invite the bulk of the complaints.
